RPL Symposium 2014 – Celebrating and Recognizing Learning

This full day Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Symposium will showcase local, provincial and pan Canadian RPL projects and initiatives that celebrate and recognize the importance of all types of learning – formal, informal and non-formal. It will also feature MPLAN's annual PEARL (Pursuit of Excellence in the Assessment and Recognition of Learning) Awards.


9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Registration and Informal Networking

10:00 – 10:15 a.m. Opening and Welcome – MPLAN and Red River College

10:15 – 11:30 a.m. Presentation: RPL ~ From Ripples to Making Waves ~
Speakers will present RPL initiatives/projects, discuss innovations and their vision for expansion of RPL practices.

11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Lunch and MPLAN AGM

1:00 – 1:30 p.m. PEARL Awards
Presentation of the 2014 MPLAN PEARL (Pursuit of Excellence in the Assessment and Recognition of Learning) Awards

1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Presentation: Celebrating RPL: Three Past PEARL Award Winners – Where are they now?
Three successful PEARL Award programs will share their RPL success stories! Learn from the Program designers, graduates and employers about how these programs were created, key components, why they succeeded and what they are doing now in 2014.

3:00 – 3:15 p.m. Networking and Refreshments

3:15 – 4:00 p.m. Presentation: RPL Quality Guidelines for Canada
Learn about this new national initiative led by the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA) to develop pan Canadian Quality Assurance guidelines for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). We’ll share the “work to date” and key stakeholder engagement strategies.
