Join MPLAN members in learning about three Manitoba organizations putting RPL Advising practice into action to support pathways to meaningful employment.

First Presentation:

How Manitoba Start guides newcomers with their qualification recognition process and settlement journey with Medina Puskar, Manager, Career Services at Manitoba Start.
Medina has been with Manitoba Start for the past 9 years, starting off as a career coach and in a management role for the past 4 years. She has a Career Development Practitioner Certification and is a registered social worker. As a newcomer herself, coming from Bosnia as a refugee 26 years ago, guiding newcomers towards their career goals is something she finds very rewarding.

Second Presentation:

Recognition Counts (RC) Loans for Internationally Educated Professionals by SEED Winnipeg Inc. with Lizeth Ardila, Marketing Coordinator, Recognition Counts.
The RC program offers skilled immigrants financial counselling, as well as the opportunity to apply for a loan of up to $15,000 with Assiniboine Credit Union, to help with the cost of having your qualifications recognized in Manitoba.
  • What is the Recognition Counts Program?
  • Recognition Counts loan details
  • Program details and eligibility
  • Steps for applying to Recognition Counts
Lizeth joined SEED Winnipeg in 2019 as an Administrative Coordinator after working as an Administrative Assistant at Menno Simons College. In 2021, Lizeth became the Marketing Coordinator for SEED’s Recognition Counts program.
Lizeth holds a BA in International Development and Conflict Resolution Studies. She is passionate about community organizing around issues of migrant/immigrant/refugee justice, as well as community development. As an immigrant herself, Lizeth knows about the hurdles encountered after moving to another country, and she is excited to work with a team that helps to reduce these challenges.

Third Presentation:  The Energy Advisor training program and housing energy audits - Manitoba Environmental Industries Association (MEIA) with Melissa Dorota.

MEIA will update you on the Energy Advisors (EAs) training program. This program was developed as per the federal government's Greener Homes initiative to meet the need for Energy Advisors (EAs) to help deliver the one million EnerGuide rating services for eligible homes in Canada. The micro-credential courses are targeted for Manitobans currently working in the fields of construction, trades or engineering, to provide necessary up-skilling. The program was designed to help learners acquire the knowledge and specialized skills to get registered as an EA and pass the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) federal examination.

Melissa has a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a B.A. in Political Science. With 15 years of professional experience, Melissa has a vast understanding of the environmental sector and has consulted with both private and public sectors. She has a background working with waste management and recycling, the natural resource sector, and First Nations community consultations on sustainability projects. Melissa brings project leadership and business development to the MEIA team as the new Industry Workforce Development Manager.
